Not everybody has a large house with a lovely lawn and a vast carpet area. In fact, most people you probably know try to make the best out of the small 1BHK apartment they live in.  However, having a small space does not mean you cannot turn it into a lovely abode.

When living in a smaller house, the usual size and style of furniture will not work. However, good furnishing is the soul of home decor. Choosing the wrong furniture can make a small apartment look even more cramped. On the other hand, buying just the right furniture can light up your house.

When it comes to furniture, there is an option for everybody. So, all you have to do is make the right choice of furniture for your house. Here is a list of furniture you should go for in a small house:

Pedestal table

A pedestal table is a round table with a single central pedestal base. Due to its smaller size, it can fit nicely into smaller spaces. Usually, a pedestal table has a round edge. This means there is no chance of it bumping into sharp corners. Moreover, a central pedestal means there are no legs making it easier to seat more people around it.

Horizontal/vertical shelving

Usually while buying a shelf, people tend to buy the largest unit they can find. The idea behind that is that they may own a lot of books, collectibles, and other memorabilia in the future. Hence, they decide to create a space for it right away. However, it also takes up a lot of space.

Instead, you could go for a cubby-like shelf that can be set up horizontally or vertically. Not only does this save space, it also allows you to be creative with your storage. Moreover, if you buy a sturdy shelf and position it horizontally, it can be also used as a bench.

Stack of stools

Stating the obvious, you cannot have a huge armchair or a sofa set in a smaller house. However, just because you don’t have room doesn’t mean that you have to keep your guests standing when they come over. Simply put, you still need a place to sit. A simple solution for this is get a stack of stools and store them in a corner. When any guests come by, you can use that stack around a small coffee table.

Big mirror

There are pieces of furniture that are usually bought in multiple quantities. These include chairs, tables, etc. One of these is mirrors. Usually, a bigger house has mirrors in every room and additional ones in the bathroom. However, a small apartment doesn’t allow you to place mirrors wherever you like. But to meet the requirement of mirrors, you simply get one big mirror and use it for anything you need to.

Small-scale armchairs.

A huge armchair is the ultimate level of seating comfort you can have. However, they do take up a lot of floor space. In a smaller house, every inch of free space is a blessing. Hence, you need to balance comfort with floor space. You can do that by smaller armless chairsor armchairs that take more space vertically. Moreover, if you move into a bigger apartment in the future, you can simply use these designer dining chairs to complete a large seating area.

Settee

Mini Parsons desk

While its primary use is that of a desk, it can also double up as an oversized bedside table, buffet or a kitchen table. It has a sleek shape that makes it perfect for smaller apartments. This because a table in a smaller apartment needs to serve many uses.

Bench

A small bench is a great option for small home interiors because it can be tucked under your dinner table when they are not being used. A bench is the perfect option to use at a coffee table in case you have more guests than you can seat at your couch.
