Steam deck: everything we know about handheld valves

The steam deck is a portable PC which has long been rumored to be long, and set to launch this December. This device like Nintendo-Like promises to put a fully functional PC in the palm of your hand, and for anyone with a large steam library, it sounds like a pretty tempting proposition.

The initial news appeared that the company behind the beak quietly developed a dedicated handheld device in April. Dubbed “Steamal”, which was previously also known by Neptune Codename, Ars Technica is the first to solve the news about the PC valve pampu device that we now know is real.

At a glance, the steam dump is a portable portable all-in-one portable gaming device that brings features and games that you like from steam and package it into a strong and comfortable form factor that you can bring wherever you go. It runs a modified vapor version, complete with an interface like a console, and has a 7-inch LCD screen.

Just like the Nintendo switch, the steam deck can also dock and output to the TV or monitor using the USB-C port. Valve plans to sell its own dock separately later on, but you can use the USB type-C dock that is without worry.

This functionality means you can use the steam deck as a fully rushed PC if you choose, because you can also install whatever OS you like – although most will be happy to stay with steam vapors. You can also connect various hardware accessories such as the mouse and keyboard or flight stick, which means all your favorite peripherals will function. Oh, and you can even connect a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones.

The steam deck is set to release on December 2021, and costs $ 399 / £ 349 for the base model equipped with EMMC 64GB internal storage and a carrying bag.

The mid-range option costs $ 529 / £ 459 and includes 256GB NVME SSD inside for faster storage, tote bags and exclusive vapor community profile bundles.

Finally, the highest level option is worth $ 649 / £ 569 and includes 512GB of SSD internal storage NVME, glass anti-glare engraved premium, exclusive tote bag, exclusive steam community profile bundle, and exclusive virtual keyboard theme.

The three console storage can be expanded thanks to a microSD card slot, which supports SD, SDXC and SDHC formats.

We expect a steam deck for sale with a higher price label than the Nintendo Switch, which was sold for $ 299 / £ 279.99 / au $ 469, but it was even more expensive than the new Nintendo Switch, which was sold for $ 349 / £ 309.

Gabe Newell Valve said the company found the price of steam deck “hurt” but “critical” in an interview with IGN. Newell told Ign about the need to be “very aggressive” in terms of pricing, and said that the top priority was to ensure that PC players can take the steam deck and feel like working perfectly.

“I want to take this and say, oh, everything works. Everything is fast. Everything … and then a secondary and painful price point. But it’s quite clear an important aspect for it,” Newell said. “But the first is the performance and experience, it is the biggest and most basic constraints that encourage this.”

The steam deck might look rather futile, but the valve says it is designed for a comfortable and extended play session, and has full-fidelity control so you can play your favorite game without compromise.

The steam deck displays a “best class” thumb with a built-in capacitive touch sensor, which valve says will provide “the level of precision and comfort that is not found on other portable gaming devices”.

You will see that the deck steam also includes two trackpads, which means users will have controls such as the mouse in games that don’t play well with gamepad. Valve said these bearings were similar to those found in the current steam controller, so expect some haptic feedback and general improvement on the old trackpad.
